Meet the Instructor
McKensey Coit grew up riding on her family's farm and ranch in western Oklahoma. At age 5, McKensey started competing in team penning classes on her first American Quarter Horse, Mr. Mill Bar, aka “Grey.” McKensey and Grey competed in their first American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Show when McKensey was only 7; she was one of the youngest competitors at the invitation only event.
McKensey later learned to ride English and became a member of the US Pony Club. McKensey also competed at 4H, hunter/jumper and eventing competitions on her home-raised American Quarter Horse mare Sugar 093. McKensey and Sugar were 4H State Champions in the Senior Mares halter class in 1999 where they also placed third in the state in hunter hack.
While McKensey enjoyed success in the show horse ring, her passion remained in the ranch and cow horse classes. McKensey was the 2000 United States Team Penning Association Junior Youth Regional Champion where she won her first saddle. McKensey also earned several Top 5 and Top 10 placings in the AQHYA World Show in team penning. McKensey and her gelding Roxies Little Doc were ranked Reserve High Point in the nation in youth cutting by the American Quarter Horse Association in 2008. McKensey and her string of quarter horses that she raised and trained have been awarded numerous Registers of Merit, national high point awards and AQHA World Show qualifiers in team penning and ranch sorting in youth, amateur and open divisions.
McKensey has been teaching riding lessons for adult and children for over 10 years. She strives to instill a sense of confidence in her students that applies to life both in and outside of the saddle. McKensey has a relaxed, commonsense approach to riding that puts both horse and rider at ease. Lessons with McKensey give aspiring equestrians a strong, correct foundation that allows them to excel in both English and western disciplines.
McKensey also has vast experience starting young horses and re-training difficult or spoiled horses. She spent years riding and training ranch horses on her family's farm and ranch. McKensey is comfortable riding horses of all backgrounds and levels. McKensey can help you and your horse work together to become partners.
